"In early April, with the arrival of ramps and winter-over rabe in the farmers' market still weeks away, Sue and I went off in search of the real spring awakening.  Instead of heading southward as so many travelers do to jumpstart its arrival, everyone eager to shed clothing and gaze at magnolias and cherry blossoms, our contrarian compass was oriented northwards towards the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.
